DR Discount and Wholesale takes new direction

We we started out the concept of DR DISCOUNT was a dollar store retail with wholesale sideline. It was soon realized that the store was not big enough to accomodate mutiple lines. Although we still carry Welches fruitsnacks at wholesale prices, we are leaning towards arts and crafts for professional and semi professional crafters. That is, we are beginning to carry supplies in larger than dollar store packages and gradually changing over stock to higher grade items, but still selling at highly competitive prices. Our policy is to listen to crafters and artists to find out what products they are looking for and get them in.

One such customer had been buying leather cording at dollar store and when we offered to get 100 meter rolls in, she jumped at the chance.

Seed beads were another popular item and when we got them in in 1 pound packages, they were all gone the next day.

Invitation to the World Travellers who have landed on this Blog.

I started this blog as a communication tool for the Baha’is in London, Ontario and so it would be easier to avail ourselves of each other’s services. When I didn’t get much local response I forgot about it and now, two years later, I started a new blog, The London World Peace Forum, for those interested in world peace. You can view that at http://londonpeaceforum.blogspot.com/. When I checked stats to see how it was I decided to check on some of my other blogs and was surprised at the amount of hits my dead Baha’is in business blog was getting. 256 hits so far and I hadn’t posted anything for about a year. Well, I knew I had to revive this blog, and then looking at the geography of the hits I decided to open it up to everyone. Most of those hits were from the United States, but Japan generated almost as many hits as Canada. Next on the list were Germany, Latvia, Finland and the United Kingdom.

Now, to all you world travellers who landed here, if you would like to participate by leaving comments, feel free to do so. If you would like to list your business or service here, send an email to me, george@drdiscount.ca, and I will add you if you qualify. To qualify, you don’t have to be a Baha’i but your business or service should be of interest to Baha’is. Therefore a business selling items that go against the teachings of the Baha’i Faith would not be acceptable. (ie Alcoholic beverages, tobacco, drug paraphernalia, gambling items, etc.) Also we will expect honest and ethical business practices. If anyone knows of a reason a business or service should not be listed on this site, they can notify me by email and I will investigate. I will remove a listing and all blogs related to it if complaints are not resolved in a satisfactory manner. The removal of information from this blogspot is at my discretion and does not indicate that there was any proven problem with the business involved, but only that I was unable to determine that the business was operating to acceptable standards.

We can also entertain comments related to the challenges of conducting a business according to Baha’i standards. If you have any helpful hints or concerns, feel free to send them to me for consideration. I will post the most helpful of them. If you are struggling with something and would like the opinions of fellow bloggers, again I will post these concerns for you so others can leave comments and advice.

I don’t want to get to complicated, but I am venturing into unknown territory. I don’t anticipate problems, but in any venture problems can arise. There are no guarantees to accuracy of information or effectiveness of advice given. You use what is contained here at your discretion and you accept all risks and consequences of the results. I am merely providing a vehicle for communication between individuals who are mostly unknown to each other. Take from it what you will and give back what you can.

For and other info you may call be at 519-850-6651. For those who have previously ordered books, I should have them by the end of the week. If you want to be sure your order didn't get missed, please send me and email with your list and indicate previously ordered on the ones you already ordered. Email works musch better for ordering but I will take phone orders if you are not comfortable with email. Books may be picked up at the store or I will bring them to the comunity Feast on August 1st. You may also invite me to your local area Feast on other dates and I will bring some books to sell plus your order.

'Abdu'l-Bahá – Any Question Answered
 
The book "Baha'i Administration" is concluded with a glowing, tearful tribute by Shoghi Effendi to the Greatest Holy Leaf. In this tribute, the Guardian mentions that the Greatest Holy Leaf would refer to 'Abdu'l-Bahá as "Aqa." Being on the curious side, I needed to know the meaning of Aqa. Doing a goggle search for the word, I eventually found out it was an Arabic name for a male, a Variant of Agha meaning Master Owner. Since I already knew that 'Abdu'l-Bahá was often referred to as "The Master" this made a lot of sense, but before I found this definition, I'd found some other interesting meanings for AQA.
AQA is a much used acronym used by many companies. The most interesting is a text messaging company which uses it to stand for "Any Question Answered. When I saw that I thought, "Isn't that 'Abdu'l-Bahá?" Before there was text messaging and internet, there was 'Abdu'l-Bahá, the master question answerer and, indeed, there are many who daily scrutinize His writings to find the answers to life's important questions. Yes, with modern technology we may find instant answers to our trivia questions on the internet, but when it comes to the really important questions we must read daily the writings of Bahá'u'lláh and  'Abdu'l-Bahá.
